Do Diets That Work Both Quickly And Safely Exist?

Many times when we are searching for the best way to lose weight, our first objective is often to find diets that promise quick weight loss rather than safe weight loss. However, our first priority should be a diet that is safe for us to follow.

Even though there are lots of diets that work just fine, that doesn't mean they are cut out for you and your lifestyle.

Your health is of paramount importance, and therefore your very first step should be to consult your physician just to make sure you are healthy enough to begin any kind of diet.

Your doctor can help you determine a diet which is right for you. With his consent, you can begin one of many diets that work safely to help you meet your weight loss goals, and there are diets that work fairly quickly and safely at the same time.

Diets that are safe for the average person to follow combine a healthy eating plan with restricted calories and exercise. Weight Watchers is a well known organization which supports its members on their weight loss goals. They encourage dieters to create a new healthy lifestyle to lose weight and keep it off.

Weight Watchers also offers online weight loss programs for those who are unable to attend meetings.

Other organizations which promote diets that work safely are TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), Jenny Craig, and Nutrisystem. TOPS, like Weight Watchers, has both an option to attend on-site center-based meetings, or you can follow the plan online.

With Jenny Craig and Nutrisytem, you purchase and consume their pre-packaged foods while learning new patterns of eating.

With any weight loss solutions or programs, there will be a transition period following your weight loss where you learn to maintain your current weight.
Speed is not the goal when you want to lose weight safely. Your healthy weight loss should never exceed two pounds per week unless approved by your doctor. Slow and steady weight loss is safer and you will be far less likely to regain the pounds shed.

When you have excess weight to lose, it's very tempting sometimes to try the latest fad diets or or even a weight loss fast. Many people, when they go on a diet that requires you to eat nothing but bananas or grapefruits, quickly find their resolve disappearing. A well-balanced diet that includes all the food groups will give most people the best results in the long run.

Remember, there are diets that will support healthy weight loss as well as maintenance. You can find diets that work both safely and quickly, but be sure you understand your options before you make a decision. Research the weight loss success of others and let their experiences inspire you to victory.

Fat Burning Foods For Rapid Weight Loss

Overweight and obese people are not the only ones who are affected by the weight loss craze that is bombarding this country. There is an ever growing need among people who do not even have a weight problem to learn everything they can about different ways to lose weight including information about fat burning foods, fat burning pills, and other means of dropping unwanted pounds.

These people who are considered to have normal body weight still see themselves as actually being too heavy, and therefore feel a need to lose weight.

As a result of this distorted body image, they are just as caught up in the craze as people who really do have a problem and need to lose weight.

These folks typically do exhaustive searches for the 'latest and greatest' weight loss diets and any other available ways to lose weight but seldom act on the information they have found, even though they know that not taking action means that nothing is going to change as far as their weight is concerned.

Knowing how to lose weight is not enough - you must act on it. This usually means making changes to your current lifestyle, even if the changes are subtle ones. You could, for instance, begin to keep your distance from bad carbs, bad fats, and bad foods in general, instead focusing on better choices of good carbs and fats.

Foods that are calorie dense, low in nutrition, loaded with saturated fats (the bad fats), and packed with simple carbs (the bad carbs) should be avoided as much as possible. Some of these foods you want to limit in your diet include candy, cakes, cookies, sugar, chips, soft drinks, beer and alcohol, most fast foods, burgers, white rice, white bread, white pasta, biscuits, and pizza.

A better game plan to get your fat burning diet in gear would be to make better food choices including nutrient-dense, lower calorie foods, complex carbs, and unsaturated fats. Following is a list of some of the foods that will help you to lose weight if you stick with them while avoiding the previous list of 'not so good' choices.

Foods Considered To Be 'Fat Burners'

Protein: The body must expend more energy to digest protein than it does for carbohydrates, and body fat is used as the source of this energy. Protein helps to build muscle, which in turn burns fat.

Excellent low calorie sources of protein include tuna, eggs or egg substitutes, fat free cream cheese, nonfat cottage cheese, kidney beans, and lean chicken (grilled, roasted, or steamed - not fried).

Unsaturated Fats: Though fats are actually essential for maintaining a healthy body, saturated fats have been linked to such dangerous conditions as heart disease, increased cholesterol levels, weight gain, and even cancer. All fats, both saturated (which are solid at room temperature) and unsaturated (which are liquid at room temperature), are high in calories and therefore should be limited in our diets.

Good choices for unsaturated fats include oily fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel, and herring (baked, not fried) , vegetable oils, olives, some nuts including almonds, walnuts, peanuts and hazelnuts, soybeans, and seeds such as sesame, flax, and pumpkin.

Complex Carbohydrates: These high-fiber foods help you to feel satisfied long after you have eaten, which in turn helps you to avoid snacking between meals.

Good sources of the complex carbs are whole wheat breads and pasta, many vegetables including broccoli, spinach, navy beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, cabbage, cucumbers, asparagus, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, and turnip greens, as well as fruits such as apples, oranges, carrots, prunes, grapefruit, and pears.

In order to lose weight, it is essential to burn more calories than are taken in. A diet consisting primarily of fat burning foods, and enhanced by some form of exercise, will lead to a healthy weight loss as well as healthier eating habits.

Fasting For Weight Loss

Is Fasting Unhealthy?

The web and so many other sources are all full of information about weight loss diets - some of it helpful - some of it totally useless, not to mention down right dangerous.

Diet fads abound everywhere, but the sad truth is that these fad diets and trends are, for the most part, just a means to generate more money for the person(s) pushing the information or products. However, fasting for weight loss is one of the most primitive and old fashioned ways to lose weight, and it doesn't cost you a thing.

Although not considered the healthiest practice for weight loss by many, fast diets are still very effective and can actually be a safe way to lose weight and cleanse your body. It's important, of course, to consult with your personal physician before starting a fast diet, but once he determines you are healthy enough, you'll be good to go.

What is A Fasting Diet?

Simply stated, fasting is abstinence from some (or all) food or drink for a certain period of time. Take note that fasting does not necessarily mean completely abstaining from eating altogether.

This practice is much more dangerous and should be avoided except under the care of a doctor. In order for fasting to work, it is best to first determine what your goals are.

For optimum results while you are following your fast diet, you must apply a strict eating regimen along with an exercise plan. Otherwise, it could be useless. As soon as you have determined your goals, it is now time to apply the principle of fasting in your daily routine.

How To Fast

For beginners, fasting should be done gradually. It is dangerous and even harmful for someone to completely dive into fasting. With that said, it is also important to still have enough nutrients so as not to starve yourself. A lot of people believe in intensely undergoing such routines. This route is not only counter-productive, it is also detrimental.

When people go on an all-out 'no eating' plan, which is essentially a water fast, this allows them to go into a state of shock. Their bodies subsequently go into a 'starvation mode', turning to their muscles and their insides for food. Once this happens, your body will slow down, regress, and will eventually breakdown if the plan is followed long enough.

Furthermore, when someone refrains from eating, they actually tend to burn fewer calories than if they were eating. This is because the body signals that there is a deficiency of food, and therefore should conserve energy in order to survive. A very bad decision indeed.

The correct way to fast is to eat only one type of food group - in moderation. Eating up to six times a day would further speed up the metabolism, and the addition of exercise to the plan would be even more advantageous.

Remember that in order to lose weight fast, you would need to stick to the fast diet that you have chosen to follow, and exercise as well. Fasting for weight loss can be done in a safe manner, but do your research and make sure you are healthy enough to carry it out before you begin.

The Low Carb Diet

One of the most common diet trends to surface our generation is the low carb diet. But what exactly is a low carb diet? Simply put, it is just what the name implies, an eating plan that consists of less than normal daily carbohydrate intake. Usually, around 50 grams of net carbs per day is considered the norm.

Some people believe that low carb diets are only fad diets and that they will eventually disappear. But contrary to popular belief, there is actually some science and logic to it. If people can follow this plan carefully and without cutting corners, low carb weight loss can be very beneficial to them.

Carbohydrates make up a good percentage of pretty much all of the food groups. If you check your food labels, except those that specifically promote 'low carb', you will see that many foods are heavily infused with carbs.

For this reason, it has become an excessive ingredient in our diets that tends to cause excessive weight gain for many of us.

With that said, it is best for people to follow a healthy diet plan that is moderate - not too indulgent. In the world of fitness and bodybuilding, balance is key. Any fitness expert or guru will tell you that if your diet is not balanced that is not a good thing and you need to make some changes.

In order to follow a low carb diet plan, try to shift your daily eating regimen to something that is higher in fiber and protein. A low carb diet should be within the range of 50 grams of carbs per day. Having said that, if you will stick to mostly fiber and protein rich foods and count the total amount of carbs per meal, you will find that consuming the recommended 50 grams per day will be much easier.

The carbs that we are looking at in our low carb meals is the net carbs, not the total carbs. In order to calculate the net carbs, you would have to subtract the total number of carbs by the fiber content of the food.

Net carbs is what matters and that is why you should stick to foods that have high fiber or high protein content. Foods like whole grain bread, rye, dairy, nuts, and lean meat are very good choices. Additionally, you can add in some fruits and vegetables to supplement your diet.

In totality, a good low carb diet plan should not be too intense. Eat six times a day, follow the main principle, and try to be more active in order to quickly see results.
